Perforation of Colon - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit portrays perforation of the colon in a series of illustrations. The first two illustrations show normal anatomy of the colon, including the ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid parts of the colon, and the rectum. The third illustration shows the initial condition of the sigmoid colon, which has diverticula. The fourth illustration shows the advancement of a sigmoidoscope into the area of the diverticulosis. The fifth illustration shows the colon stretching from pressure from the advancing loop of the scope. The scope is further advanced, forcing the loop of the scope through the colon wall. The sixth illustration shows the eventual condition, including the loop of the scope forced through the colon wall. The seventh illustration shows the visualization of the perforated colon wall by the scope when the scope is retracted.
