Lumbar Spine Injury with Surgical Fusion - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
The lumbar injuries in this case consist of disc herniations at L3-4, L4-5 and a disc bulge at L5-S1. A left flank incision is made at the level of L3-4 and it is accessed through the retroperitoneal space. The disc is resected and a PEEK implant filled with BMP-infused sponge and DBM paste is inserted into the intervertebral space. A second incision is made posteriorly over L3 and L4 and a pedicle screw is place on the left side of L3 and L4 and connected with a rod. The left facet at this level is decorticated and a sponge with BMP-infused product with DBM paste is placed within the facet joint to fuse the bone.
